Centre Aims

VTOS Shanagolden aims to proved participants with education and training opportunities, which will develop their employability and to prepare participants for employment or further education while providing the opportunity to enhance their own personal development.
There are three VTOS centres in County Limerick at Kilmallock, Dromcollogher as well as Shanagolden

Information

Who is eligible to join?
Participants must be over 21 years and in receipt of benefits/credits from DSFA for at least 6 months.

VTOS is provided free of charge to participants and social welfare benefits/allowances are retained.

Childcare allowance of €63.00 per week for fulltime care is available. Primarily childcare is provided by Shanagolden Creche on site and funded by County Limerick VEC.

Participants are also entitled to a travel and meal allowance.

A person will qualify for a weekly training allowance of €31.80 if they have been in receipt of unemployment payment for 12 months prior to commencement of the VTOS course
VTOS is funded by the Department of Education & Science under the National Development Plan 2000-2006 and is delivered in over 100 locations throughout the country by the thirty-three VEC’s. Course Content: A range of 13 subjects is provided over the two-year duration of the programme, in the areas of Information Technology, Business and Art and Design. Courses follow the ECDL and NCVA (National Council Vocational Awards) curricula and are accredited by FETAC (Further Education and Training Awards Council).
IT Modules:
European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
ECDL Advanced, Text Production, Payroll, Desktop Publishing &
Web Authoring

Business: Information & Admin, Bookeeping: Manual & Computerised
Art and Design: Colour In My Life- Personal Effectiveness & PaintingCommunications and Work Experience are core modules.
A person can complete a combination of 8 modules to achieve a FETAC Business Studies Level 5 Award. Career Guidance:

Students are assisted at every stage of their learning from induction to completion of the course, in the areas of learning, personal development, career options, job search skills and interview preparation by COLVEC Guidance Officer.

Work Experience: Students complete a 3 week work placement as part of the criteria for Work Experience module. VTOS is continually expanding its links with local industry and companies to obtain relevant and practical experience to enable learners to return to the work force.
