Community Education

MISSION STATEMENT

Community Education is the empowerment of individuals and groups, so that they can become active citizens in their own community. This is achieved by the facilitation of adult learning in communities across Co. Limerick. Community Education is learner centred with a focus on shared experiences.

Community Education Facilitation Service

Community Education aims to facilitate learning by adults in their own community.

Community Education is delivered across Co. Limerick from Askeaton to Mountcollins and from Castleconnell to Ballyagran. Courses take place in a wide variety of venues from Community Centres, Primary Schools, Post – Primary Schools as well as Family Resource Centres and Community Development Projects.

Community Education is learner centred.

Community Education delivery is self-directed and based on the needs requested by Community Groups. Community Education is broad ranging in terms of the choice of subjects on offer i.e. Parenting, Personal Development, Art & Craft, and Woodwork. This is reflective of the range of groups we deliver to. Community Education is also responsive to the changing needs of our learners. Community Education works on the principles of equality inclusion and collective action.

Community Education supports the collective.

Community Education can have an important role in both group initiation and maintenance. Co. Limerick V.E.C. also recognises the important role that our partners West Limerick Resources and Ballyhoura Development Ltd., Hospital F.R.C., Croom F.R.C. and West Limerick C.D.P. play in the support and maintenance of community groups. The Community Education Facilitation Service operates from and promotes the principle of partnership in supporting community groups.

How to Access Community Education Funding?

Community Education funding can be accessed by making an application to the Community Education Facilitator. Application forms are available from Co. Limerick V.E.C.’s Head Office.
