Coláiste Pobail Mhicil was established County Limerick V.E.C. in in 1938 as a rural Ceard Scoil. In the late 60's and early 70's the the curriculum was expanded to implement the policy of free Post Primary education for all, incorporating the Intermediate and Leaving Certificate Examinations. In 1993, the board of Management decided to rename the school. The name chosen was St. Michael' College, St. Michael being the patron saint of the parish of Cappamore.
